How can parents tell if their child is food intolerant? Print

Many childhood illnesses and conditions can be traced back to food intolerance: middle ear infections, autism, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) are just a few examples of conditions related to food intolerance in children.  Other food intolerance symptoms children can experience include bloating, loose stools, or gas after eating a specific food.

Some parents are able to figure out food intolerances just by doing an elimination diet:  eliminating the most common allergens from the diet for several weeks, then gradually reintroducing those foods and watching for reactions.  Other parents choose to order a food intolerance test to find out what the problem foods are before perhaps eliminating foods unnecessarily.
